I did discover a command to select between internal modem and the RS232 connection so that is progress. However I also discovered some significant hardware “rot” that I am now in the process of repairing.
They used some kind of rubber standoffs between the actual printer assembly and the top circuit board. They basically isolation mounted the printer, presumably to reduce noise, on these rubber mounts. Unfortunately these mounts are now really lousy looking busted up gum drops with an ugly white fuzz on them. Totally decomposed. So— I’m now on mission to fabricate replacements before I can run the unit. I think I’m going to learn about “Sugru” (which I just received today) to see if I can hand mold some replacements,
https://sugru.com/
There are also multiple puffed up electrolytic caps that need to be replaced in the power supply, which is no surprise, but it does mean it needs a bunch of work before putting the juice to it.
It’ll be a couple weeks but the upside is that it’s all apart now so taking pictures will be easy :-)
