[GreenKeys] OT: Happy birthday, Route 66!

I also still drive on it each week (most of 11th street here in Tulsa, OK is the old Route 66). I’ve also done the full route stopping at many of the attractions along the way. I’ve stayed at the Wigwam hotel (Holbrook, AZ), looked sadly at the old twin arrows trading post ruins, saw many (many) dinosaurs and stood on the corner in Winslow, AZ. I grew up in Chicago and now work quite a bit in LA, so I guess I was destined to live on Route 66!

No doubt some old pharts here have driven along Route 66; I've heard it's still possible to drive on bits of the old lady. Route 66 was established today in 1926, and has been immortalised in many a song. There was nothing special about the number, nor was it sequential; it just looked cute.

I would have loved to driven it before interstates took over. Maybe as a teletype repair man!

Must have been an experience. Stopping at the motels in the many small towns along the route... when things were simpler (and cars were less reliable...)
