Some background on Jerry's comments: Until the early 1960s Teletype Corp.
published its own manuals (Bulletins). Then these were sent to Bell Labs
where they were rewritten into the format of BSPs for Bell System use.
Sometime in the early 1960s it was decided that Teletype manuals should be
written as BSPs at Teletype Corp. to avoid the rewriting at Bell Labs.
These BSPs have a TC suffix on the number to indicate they were prepared
by Teletype Corp.
One remaining difference concerned schematic diagrams. Because there are
so many variations from one machine to another Teletype didn't ordinarily
include schematic and wiring diagrams in non-military Bulletins, but
instead provided prints of these diagrams with the equipment. The Bell
System was somewhat more standardized in the equipment it used and
typically printed BSPs containing schematic and wiring diagrams.
In the World War II time frame Teletype issued Manuals for military sets.
A Manual included the bulletins for Description and Theory, Adjustments
and Lubrication, Parts, all applicable errata sheets, and schematic and
wiring diagrams. Later I believe the practice for military equipment was
often to produce a Bulletin in the format specified by the military
service and containing everything (possibly in several volumes) required
by the specification. The diagrams supplied with civilian equipment were
typically Ozalid prints, while those in military manuals were printed
just like the rest of the manuals.
