Awesome! Glad you kept it, I do the same thing, they call it being a "pack rat" - I still have stuff I built as a kid.
Nice layout and construction.

Hi all!
I hope these pics of the "One-tube TU" make it thru!
There was a bit of chatter last week on the subjectof this very simple, but workable little TU...
I built this unit in 1970 from the 1969 edition ofthe ARRL handbook...
I believe it also appeared in the '66 thru 68' editionsas well...
This was built mainly from junk box parts on hand...
When first fired up, it worked perfectly with an external130VDC @ 60ma loop circuit...
My first copy was taken on a Teletype Model 14 strip printer, and as tape supplies back then were readilyavailable, I copied lots of commercial traffic with it,with no fears of running out of tape...
Later, a friend of mine loaned me a Lorenz LO15which I used for quite awhile copying RTTY...
The receiver I was using at the time was a brand newKenwood 9R-59D, costing a "Princely" sum of $155.00
Maybe some of you fellows remember these receivers...
They looked great, velvet smooth concentric tuning, ease of operation etc.
One serious downside to this receiver, was a notorious frequency instability (Drift) problem, which meant continual retuning to maintain reliable RTTY copy!
This problem was well documented at the time, and there were many "Fixes" offered, but not fromKenwood!
I still have this receiver, mite fix the drifting problemone of these days!
I understand a few of you radio guys built and usedthis TU back in the day...
Were there any improvements made to this designback in the day?
Was wondering if there was some type of audio filterthat cud have been used between the receiver AF outand audio in to help combat QRM issues...
Lastly, does anyone know of a similar one or twotube TU design that might have been tried?
Thanks for listening, hope you enjoyed the pictures!
I will be sending the rest of the pics shortly,
KenVE3-HMQCheers!---------- Forwarded message ----------
