Be aware that PayPal is not a sure thing either. I was warned that some
folks will use it to buy things after setting up an account with a stolen
credit card. They buy from Craig's List (for example - just not on eBay
because they're connected) and when the card owner discovers, and disputes,
the transaction you're on the hook to repay the money to the card co. so
you loose twice.
When we began setting up our business I started selling some larger items
($1000 +) via CL and got a slew of responses, all of which included the
buyer sending me extra money via PayPal or a Check / bank draft to "pay his
shipper". I eventually added this paragraph to ALL on-line adds:

 NOTE TO POTENTIAL BUYERS
1. We do not accept PayPal
2. We will not accept extra money to pay your shipper
3. No PayPal
4.We will NOT contact your Sister, Brother, Cousin, Aunt ect off -list via
their anonymous email address
5. No PayPal
Please note we are a registered business, all NSF checks and other
fraudulent payments are reported to the Indiana States Attorney's office as
required by law.

After including this in the add, all the BS buyers dropped away.

I have used PayPal on eBay for several years, so far so good, but not
elsewhere
