Yeah, some people go overboard on these things.
I sold a small/cheap item on eBay. EBay charged me
on the shipping charges. I complained to them that I
don't make any profit on shipping - and I'm not even
compensated for the cost of the box or going to the
Post Office to ship it.
They responded, basically saying, that some people
figured-out that since they pay for the ad, but not
for shipping, they'd "do-over" (and I'm sure you can
come up with a more COLORFUL term for "do-over") by
selling the item REALLY CHEAP - and then charging an
exorbitant amount on shipping.
So next time you see a really cool transceiver for
$50.oo but the shipping is $3,000.oo, well - now you know why.
