Geezzz.... I have never heard of 'Bull Code'. But I havenoticed that there are differences between my machine and the documents andschematics I have obtained from Bitsavers and some Green Key friends. I have theFlexowriter SPD-V connected to my CPM computer and it works rather well as aprinter. I found that the Friden Code (if that is what it is called) listed onthe Model SPD - Systems Flexowriter double case sheet is not exactly the sameas my machine. I found that the all the letters and numbers were the same, butthe comma, dash, colon had different codes and the Control and Form Feed didn'twork at all. But, that didn't affect my usage much, I just had to change thelookup table conversion to make the punctuation work. I also noticed that documentation, especially the schematicsare not the same as in my machine. It provides excellent examples of how itworks, but some of the electrical diagrams are not even close. So I wonder itsome of these machines were special ordered? Anyway, I'd like to next build aconverter for the keyboard so that I can input fro the Flexowriter into the CPMcomputer and later attempt a connection to my PDP8E. Both the PDP8E and thisFlexowriter were part of a machine tool and were used together. There weredrawers full of mylar 'paper' tape, which I was told were the programs for themachine tool to make parts. The Flexowriter was used to make the tapes and toduplicate them as they wore out. Hi all.
maybe we should move the conversation to the typewriters mailing list
typewriters at yahoogroups.com. It feels a bit uncomfortable talking about
these machines here. :-)
anyway, I managed to attach my Auxiliary reader to my SPD but stumbled
upon a coding problem: My SPD uses Bull code and the auxiliary reader
the normal Friden code. the space code on the Friden is the same as the
stop read code on the SPD. Now i have to find the place where this is
handled so i can use the auxiliary reader in a mailmerge setup.:-)
My Auxiliary punch is made for a computyper setup and uses a completely
different setup completely, with different pinouts and two cables to the
system (which I don't have unfortunately)
