If it was +really+ loud, that would be a howler tone.. the off-hook alarm.
I've heard those plenty, but I'm apparently too young to have encountered
the cry-baby in the wild. I clicked the link and the tone was totally
unfamiliar. Very nice site, though, I emailed him for for thanks &
encouragement.

Did anyone notice the Viking DLE-300 (Dual-Line Emulator) in one of the
first pics? There's something that looks like a modem sitting atop it. The
DLE seems like a must-have for a guy that far into the legacy telco world.
I know I've mentioned it on this list before.. it's a very handy item if
you suddenly find yourself needing two emulated landlines at your
workbench.
