I was acquainted with Bert when I was working for Teletype Corp. 
1963-1966 and living in

Deerfield, IL.


The story in this obituary resonates with me because I like to tell a 
very similar story.

When I was about two years old my father had appendicitis and I was 
taken to the hospital to visit him after the surgery.  It was a very old 
hospital even then, and the electric outlets in the wall instead of 
being the two-blade kind were screw-in, like a light bulb socket.  Of 
course I walked up and stuck my finger into one - no such concept as 
safety caps in those days.  They tell me that I said, "Wow!  When I grow 
up I'm going to be an electrical engineer!"
