Some years back I tried to stir up an event called "Green Key Night"
(pun on the ARRL Straight Key Night) which was not a contest, more of a
QSO party, where use of mechanical teleprinters was encouraged and use
of 850 Hz shift was encouraged, but anybody can participate with anything.
I had it held on February 20th, the anniversary of the FCC granting hams
the privilege of operating RTTY using FSK on three of the bands.
There never was much participation, and when I made a contact it was like
Linus going door to door to tell people about the Great Pumpkin on
Halloween. Maybe holding it strictly on Feb 20 was a mistake. In the
early days of RTTY there was a national contest on the weekend closest to
Feb 20. Maybe I should have tried for something like that.
So I'll gladly pass the torch if anyone else wants to try to put on an
event like a contest or QSO party where mechanical teleprinters are
encouraged or required.
