[GreenKeys] RTTY RU 2017 beat our goal of 209 contacts!

Wayne,
I think you could just add an award category for using a real teleprinter - the only requirement being - all outgoing TX and incoming RX has to be printed on the paper.  It is almost impossible not to use a PC with auto logging, as the interruption to the flow of the "serious" contesters will get you shunned in the contest. If you stop between contacts to write down the contact info on paper, you are screwed.  I suppose, since you have a printout of every contact, you could go back and do the log by hand later, but you would be missing frequency & time info.
My contact cycle is:
1.  Send CQ string (tape loop/macro buffer).2.  Type received call into logging software callsign window.3.  Click "check duplicate" button4.  Send contact exchange5.  Wait for reply exchange to confirm contact.6.  Click LOG button.7.  Send TU string8.  Click on callsign window for next call.9.  Goto step 1 (repeat).
I got this down to about 8 seconds, and even that probably tested the patience of many ops.  After 50 or so contacts, your head is literally mush.  I ended up working 45 minutes and taking a 15 minute break each hour, and I could not get the damn diddle tones out of my head last night when I tried to sleep.
Nice to work you on 20M Wayne, you were my best contact!  I think I gave you a 599 right? :>)

Dave,

Did you say the temp went DOWN to 70 degrees? Poor Baby!

It was about 10 degrees here in VT last night.

Seriously, congrats on the 362 contacts!

Maybe there should be a contest only for TTY's, no computers, just a TU.

The RU is in the can - in my case literally in the can.  I went through about 1 full roll of paper both sides.
This year I managed 362 contacts.  Last year came in at 208 so it was a solid beat.  Next year I am shooting for 363.
I am planning on submitting my log for the first time ever - surely not enough to win any awards, but...all done with a mechanical Teletype in the true spirit of the contest.
To manage this, I kept my right hand on the laptop operating the logging software, and my left hand on the Model 33 operating the send/receive.  About the best I could manage was an 8 second +/- QSO cycle.
I am feeling pretty confident for 2018 as all 362 contacts were made on 20 Meters only.  The wx got down about 70F today and it was just too damn cold to go out and change the antenna to 15 M.  I will keep a coat ready for next year.
A couple action photos the XYL took are attached, notice the blur proving RTTY is a physical sport!  Since Coral Springs has severe antenna restrictions, you will note my creative solution.  I will check the logs to see if I worked any GK members.  Thanks for all your help & moral support & see you on the RTTY subbands in 2018!
thanks.--daveW5DT
