Eric,

The basic answer is to make the machine do a line feed for each carriage 
return.  I assume that the practice started among glass tty users as a way to 
discourage real TTY users.  But attempts to get them to add the LF's seem 
not to have ever worked.

There was a lengthy thread on this very subject that apparently ended a 
week or two ago.  Log into QTH.net and check the Archives.
