For comparison, here in Oz I pay AU$70 for broadband fibre to the premises 
(FTTP), plus another AU$10 for a static IP (and no, I don't know why 
static IPs are so precious; it's just a money-making exercise).  And no 
restrictions; it's just a pipe.

It also helps that we have many providers (but they all resell the 
monopoly)...

I just did a quick check (with speedtest.net) and got 23.34/4.74 Mbps; the 
slowest part of the link is probably the 5G wireless connection from the 
Macbook to the router.
