[GreenKeys] 1/2 paper tape - what was it used for? has a small hole in the core

Ed,

Samuel Morse's original Morse code system was mechanical and recorded 
the dots and dashes with a pen on a strip of paper tape (aka "slip"). 
Originally a solenoid moved a pen down onto the paper to make the dots & 
dashes. Later, the pen drew a continuous line showing dots and dashes. 
Various widths of paper tape were used. Some of the very oldest ones 
were at least an inch wide.

Lots of different widths were used for telegraph slips and printing 
telegraph strip printers.  You just have to find some equipment that it 
fits into!
