[GreenKeys] 1/2 paper tape - what was it used for? has a small hole in the core

wow found  some 1/2 paper tape -  what was it used  for? has  a small hole 
in the core?
Was over at  one  of our  aux  buildings  and  stuck my had in a box 
and there was 3 rolls of this.   This  was put there  24  years ago!
 
Any ideas?
 
I either had  no interest in it at the  time or ?
