ok so the poppys are memorial day
and the VA says Veteran's Day can be happy and thankful

and I return to my position of Happy (and Thankful) Veterans day.

Q. What is the difference between Veterans Day and Memorial Day?
A. Many people confuse _Memorial Day_ (http://www1.va.gov/opa/spe
ceven/memday/) and Veterans Day. Memorial Day is a day for remembering and honoring
military personnel who died in the service of their country, particularly
those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle.
While those who died are also remembered, _Veterans Day_
(http://www1.va.gov/opa/vetsday/vetdayhistory.asp) is the day set aside to thank and honor
ALLthose who served honorably in the military - in wartime or peacetime. In fact,
Veterans Day is largely intended to thank LIVINGveterans for their
service, to acknowledge that their contributions to our national security are
appreciated, and to underscore the fact that all those who served - not only
those who died - have sacrificed and done their duty.

When I was in grammar school this was still known as Armistice Day
and we made paper poppies. I don't think many of the kids knew what they
meant. It has become just another holiday but should be IMO a day of
sober remembrance of those who were killed and wounded in the many wars
we have been in. It certainly should not be an occasion to glamorize war.
Look up "In Flanders Fields".
