always good to remember....
yes.
perhaps I soul have said a thankful day.
I tend to lump thankfulness and happiness into one group.

I don't know that wishing a happy day is particularly appropriate for
this holiday. For those who served, and especially those who served in
combat situations, wishing a happy day is, in my opinion, totally
inappropriate.
I just finished watching on TV the National Act of Remembrance from
Ottawa, Canada's official Remembrance Day ceremony, and this American is
emotionally spent ... and I was never in the service. Canada's
designation for this day is "Remembrance Day," and it is, I feel, a more
fitting title to the day. It is a time to remember the sacrifices made
by everyone who served and especially those who made the ultimate
sacrifice. It is a time for difficult memories for both those who
served and for those who waited at home. On this day each year I am
thankful to be within off-air TV range of Canada to be able to view
their ceremony, because nothing like it exists on American television.
Yes, I know ceremonies take place here, but almost none of them get any
kind of publicity save for a but a few brief moments on the evening
news, and maybe one photo from one ceremony in tomorrow's newspaper.
Today is a day for reflecting and giving thanks to those who served, and
appreciating the freedoms we enjoy now because of the sacrifices others
have made.
Thank you to all of the veterans reading this. I know this day is
difficult for some.

Doug, KA2WFT
