Well - today I tuned-up the AK-1. That works well.

I removed the boards, took out the DVM and did some point-to-point
checks from the circuit boards to the Normal/Reverse switch. The
wires are going to the correct points - HOWEVER, when I go pin-to-pin
on the connector, the readings are wild! Each time I flip the toggle
switch, I get a different reading: it's more fun than Las Vegas...
I went point-to-point across the contacts of the switch. The switch
is shot. Then, just to see, I checked the other switches: most of
them are messed-up too.

Just a word to the not-yet wise: when you see a GREAT DEAL on a used
item, consider how much it costs - and how much you're willing to
spend on getting it to work. With $12.oo worth of Op-Amps, and looking
at around $20.oo for toggle switches, well, the deal wasn't so hot.
I'm not at all mad - because I bought it mostly so I could have a
spare set of boards - but it is in such good shape, I just have to
get it up and running. Plus, there's the CHALLENGE of resurrecting
the thing!  :-)
