Julien - 

The idea is right, but I think you may need more than 12 volts.The
current flowing in that circuit will need to be at least around 17mA in
order to get good data reception. 24 volts or more might work better.
For very low voltages, the 200 ohm resistor may be unnecessary as there
is already a 1500 ohm resistor in the circuit.

The receive side of the 33 wants 20MA unless you change a couple of
things in the UCC-6 to 60MA.

Transmit loop is dry contacts so it does not care. The 20/60 ma question
is
 a matter internal to the USB adaptor.
