[GreenKeys] 2016 RTTY Round Up Finished - Phew! (2nd Try)

On day 2, I had to modify my software to keep track of the print head position and automatically issue a CR/LF when the position reached 68. I also created a check box that lets me add a LF if needed to a naked CR. By Sunday morning the system was working quite well.
For next year, I am changing that feature to automatically detect the CR and issue a LF if one is not present. If the CR is followed by a LF then it just passes those characters on to the TTY. My software works between the TNC (MFJ-1278) and the TTY so not only does it change the baud rate it also can perform tasks like the auto CR/LF.
I am happy to share my little code with the group - it is nothing special, written in VB and will work with either an 8-bit or 5-bit TTY (you need an RS-232 to USB converter that can handle 45.5 like the Edgeport).

To get an idea of the mindset of the RTTY contesters you might subscribe
to the RTTY listserv if you haven't already. My impression is that the
vast majority are not interested in real machines (although I agree it
would be fun to have a category for it, etc.) The first contest I
worked (just a few years ago, really) I worked with an M15 and keyed my
transmitter with a footswitch. The suggested exchange mentioned here
would send most of the glass people into spasms of impatience. Where
are the macros??? It strays far, far, far beyond the exact
milliseconds required to make a contact. Also, few know what CR/LF
means. My M15 was pounding holes in the paper at the end of lines.
