Hello -
Finally got my ASR33 keyboard and typing unit de-gunked and re-lubed, however, I still can't trip the typing unit in local mode. It appears that the keyboard doesn't rotate the H plate enough to trip the clutch on the printing unit - it just sits there idling; no clutch engaged, only the motor runs.
Yet, if I remove the H plate the distributor runs continuously, like as if a key is depressed with repeat held down. I thought this was odd - I assumed that an RO machine would still have that linkage hanging there and that the machine should idle w/o a keyboard in place. Why is the distributor clutch triggered if the keyboard is mechanically disconnected? Also, is there an adjustment on either the keyboard or printer that governs how much the H plate is rotated, or how much it needs to be rotated to trip the clutch? I started to go through the printer theory of operation and adjustments, but it's pretty overwhelming, and I figured one of you guys might be able to answer quicker than I might be able to find it in the manuals...
Another observation I made is that even though I had the keyboard mechanically disconnected from the printer, it was still connected electrically - since the printer was triggered w/o the H plate in place, I would've assumed that if a key was depressed, a code should've been read by the distributor over and over again and trigger the typing mechanism with the repeating code of the depressed key (since the keyboard would not be reset), yet, the unit didn't print. So, it seems there might be an electrical problem as well. The keyboard seems to generate the right (parallel) codes on the bench when I ring out the contacts...
Thanks in advance for any ideas, and please excuse any incorrect terminology here.
Keith
