Hello Duncan and others,

The T-63 was the only mechanical teleprinter that could type in two
> different alphabets.

I have to correct my own statement about the ONLY mechanical 3 shift
machine now. Now better say
the FIRST one.
Because last September I got hold of a Czech licence Siemens T100 also as
Latin/Cyrillic version
from a collector friend from Latvia.
Until then I thought the T63 would be the only ever produced mechanical 3
shift teletypewriter.
I knew of single language machines made by Siemens (Arabic, Greek, Cyrillic
etc.) but didn"t know
that there was also a two language version available.
Siemens as a western company actually never had a market for such a machine
and I have never heard
of one.
But the Czech bought the licence and tools to produce T100's after Siemens
discontinued their
mechanical teleprinter production in Germany.
Together with RFT (a former Siemens production plant) in East Germany they
sold their products
all over the "Eastern block" countries. So, there was also a need for a two
language machine
as the RFT T63.
