     Are there some plastic parts you can test?  I've found both naptha 
and plain kerosene are effective degreasers that do not melt most 
plastics as does xylene or acetone.
     I also routinely use Simple Green for cleaning, both equipment and 
around the house. Can be had in gallon bottles from Home Depot and maybe 
cheaper other places.
