28 gearshift-How noisy should it be?

This 28KSR with LK3RN101 keyboard/base has a 3-speed gearshift. The steel
gears seem a lot noisier than the other gearshift KSR I have which is a 28
compact and a different gearshift design. Is this typical or do I need to
do more grease and adjustment work? Also when I power off, the motor stops
fairly quickly, maybe 1-2 printer cycles.
Should it coast longer?
This KSR has been a rodent residence so maybe still needs some
more cleaning out.
But I now have the keyboard and typing unit working OK at 60wpm. Take that,
mouses.
