I've seen no shortage of butchered radios and awful hack jobs in my
time.

Albeit that Amateur radio has a colorful history of "Git 'er done." As of
late it seems to be a race to see who can do the worst job possible and
as cheaply as possible.

But this patch panel is elegant in the use of "materials at hand."
