[GreenKeys] What is the RTTY standard for CR LF for transmission?

I think there should be an option in the program to select the end-of-line characters combo. I recall reading a LONG discussion of this some years ago and it concluded there was no one perfect answer. Some of the factors were that not all machines are the same & even when machines are the same they aren't all set up alike. Glass TTYers didn't care what was at the EOL, they generally automatically wrapped lines on the screen. Mechanical TTYers with auto-LF on CR set up didn't appreciate the wasted paper with a LF inserted at the EOL. Mechanical TTYers without auto-LF liked the LF in the EOL, of course.

The reason is that the mechanical machines need about 2 non printing characters so the carriage can get back to the left. The sequence should be sent to start with to make sure the machine starts off with a fresh line and at the end of the transmission so there will not be any over printing of the message due to static or other noise being received.______________________________________________________________GreenKeys mailing listHome: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/greenkeysHelp: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htmPost: mailto:GreenKeys at mailman.qth.net2002-to-present greenkeys archive: http://mailman.qth.net/pipermail/greenkeys/1998-to-2001 greenkeys archive: http://mailman.qth.net/archive/greenkeys/greenkeys.htmlRandy Guttery's 2001-to-2009 GreenKeys Search Tool: http://comcents.com/tty/greenkeyssearch.htmlThis list hosted by: http://www.qsl.netPlease help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.htmlMessage delivered to hwhall at compuserve.com
