Many of you have already seen our steampunk telegraph office:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6F_hhp4nCHE
www.aetherltd.com
Text a message in, and it prints it up as a telegram. We even have
costumed telegraph messagers.
Setting this up is kind of complicated, because it takes a hosting
account, server side software, a Twilio SMS to HTTP account, and
"baudotrss" software on the computer connected to the Teletype.
But Steve Garrison did it recently for a demo.
(Somebody really should do SMS to Teletype as a phone app.)
Any RSS feed can easily be printed. We usually follow Reuters,
because their feed has complete sentences. AP cuts off news summaries
after some arbitrary length. I have a Model 14 tape printer at home
which prints Reuters news items as they come in, powering down when
there's no new traffic. That's a good use for a Model 15, and
"baudotrss" or Heavy Metal can support that.
