Doing the line polarity reversing control is easy with the C-64. All you
need do is wire up the line through a DPDT relay (rigged for polarity
reversal), and power the relay coil directly off the 5V (or is that 9V?)
cassette port motor control line. IIRC, that line is good for 200mA or
better.
Simple BASIC pokes will toggle the cassette motor line, trigger the relay,
and flip the polarity as needed. Easy as pie, no additional circuitry or
power supplies required.
