I think all the lower case (LTRS) are the same in the ones I have seen. There are several codes for the FIGS shifted case. I would have to look them up, but one uses the # symble and another uses the funny looking L that some call the British Pound over the FIGS H key. Then there is the Weather symbles and some that have fractions in them for the stock market. The last two are not often seen.

Here is a link to two of the most common ones.

You may be thinking about the contol G being the bell in ASCII.

There are many things to think about when going from a computer ASCII to the Baudot as you are finding out. Even all the Baudot machines are not the same.

I want to encourage you to keep up the work on it. I got confused when I had my machine doing YRYRYR instead of RYRYRY, that is the standard test as it forces all the mechanical stuff to switch back and forth. I don't remember the ASCII reversal, but I think one is a * , the other may be the ? .

Wow, thank you - you laid it all out pretty well in that one post. You're right, I have never so much as put my hands on a mechanical printer the likes of an M15 - I had no idea they lacked EOL sensing / automatic CR. And since there's essentially zero flow control, the printer can't toggle a control line (like DTR) to give the carriage time to return and settle.

There's also no buffering anywhere, except on the sender's side (in this case, the C-64 allocates a pair of 256 byte FIFOs). But it's not as if the M15 will ever outpace that relative-rocket ship C-64. ;-)

Again, I'm doing all of this work based on downloaded docs and dead reckoning - working with my roughly formed concept of the M15, rather than an actual device. Things like carriage return time never crossed my mind...

And the J / S confusion isn't the only inconsistency. I found several different tables of Baudot chars & their values - none of which entirely agreed. Hopefully what I settled on won't be too far of the mark. About the bell, I always thought Ctrl-G (chr$ 7) was bell?

In any case, thanks again for all the help with this project.. I think it's going to be just fine.

On another note, I was searching eBay for "male male cable", and kept getting listings with "female" in them. So I switched to "male male cable -female".

Now eBay is pushing gay male-themed listings on me in the right column targeted adverts. That's some AI there.. ;-)
