I think a little of both. I had quite a few customers that punched Mylar a lot and no problems. Cant remember if they did the lube thing. Long time ago.

Thanks... everything I’ve read says not to do it, though.
Would that be because the Mylar/aluminum material is abrasive to the steel pins and wears them out (doesn’t seem likely), or is it only from the lack of lubrication since the Mylar tape is not oiled?

Charles,
You can use Mylar in your 33. Just short runs of it (maybe 4 or 5 feet to be safe) followed by paper tape with a little extra oil on it to lube the pins. Don't use the oily tape in the reader of course.

Where can I get paper tapes for my 33 (8-level, 1") duplicated on Mylar? I
can't punch them on the 33 itself, because it will rapidly wear out the
punch block.
But there are a few tapes that I use frequently and Mylar is a lot more
resistant to tearing, crinkling etc.
The longest one is less than 50 feet.
thanks
Charles
