You tried it (acetone + ATF), and found it unsatisfactory? My experiment
failed at the 'non-miscible' stage.. I simply figured that my bottle of
acetone didn't actually contain acetone (as we all know acetone should be
very miscible with any petroleum oil) and left it at that. Oh, and I had to
discard a bottle full of useless, nasty chemical.

Again, I used PSF (which was the original test fluid, equal parts PSF and
acetone) which may have been some kind of synthetic stuff (tho it was
cheap, didn't say so).

I've heard of, but never tried the Fred's Red concoction.. what are its
supposed properties and uses? I also saw the comment about "ATF replacing
whale oil in the original formula" - was that a joke? If not, what
"original formula" are you referring to - a discontinued commercial
product?
