With a sprocket feed 33, you really dont need to work on the platen unless you are concerned about cracking due to age.  
  
I have never used the product you mention.  I have used Techspray Rubber rejuvenator/platen cleaner.  I have had it a long time, but here is a link that might be good.  www.techspray.com 
  
I am sure other members have better stuff.

Someone on the classiccmp list has suggested using this for renewing the platen on a Model 33. Has anyone here done this? 

  

Mine is sprocket feed, would it make much difference? The platen does feel quite hard, but I don’t have anything to compare it with to say if it really needs renewing.
