Actually 1 bit for the STOP pulse is enough.  Western Union ran all their
machines with 7.00 unit code, 22ms STOP pulse.  Teletype printers get 
along fine with that.  
There may have been some discussion of this earlier in the thread (sorry if I'm covering old ground), but, wouldn't running a 1 unit stop bit actually be easier on the machine b/c the main shaft clutch wouldn't have to cycle?  IOW, it would be like running "wide open," and save wear and tear on the clutch...
