I kind of knew the answer to the speed thing a year or two ago when I
did it. Can't remember now.

What I do know, is the Lorenz ran on 50 Hz AC, had a 50 Hz strobe lamp
at the back shining on the strobe bars on the back part of the motor.
Which is why I went to an inductive pickup to set the correct speed at
60 Hz and for 60 WPM operation.
