The WW2 Army TT-7 (mod 15 KSR) was contained in a wood box.  The box, 
after the machine was taken out,
became the wood "table."   Very nice portable arrangement.  However, 
the motor was non-synchronous, with governor
that generated a lot of hash in receivers.  The Signal Corps 
obviously ran these on wire lines strung up in the field.
