Probably earlier as well. I have a wood M19 table that was originally
finished like wood, then was painted over with gray-green paint, probably
at a W.E. service shop. There was a period, presumably in the 1930s,
when metal covers were painted to imitate wood grain and the whole concept
was to resemble wood furniture. The 1938 edition of "Principles of
Electricity Applied to Telephone and Telegraph Work" shows a Model 19
with the imitation wood grain paint job.
