[GreenKeys] Docs for Frederick Electronics TUs - lots of questions

I have two Frederick Electronics units (1200 and 1202R) but lack docs for them. I have Irv Hoff's article touting the 1200 ("An Introduction to Amateur Radioteletype") from the '60s but no idea beyond that of how to set these things up. How do I determine the shift on the 1200? I'm hoping the 170 tag on the 1202R means 170Hz shift but???

Note that the 1200 has a couple of black wires running from the board on the left to terminals 11 and 12; the white wires previously connected there have been removed. Any ideas why?

Can anyone help with manuals and/or setup info?
