Mr. Whiton,
The problem lies with lack of respect for the machines which are old and require lots of TLC to keep them operating.
I have successfully supported three film makers with Teletype machines, however I was personally there with my machines and supervised their use.
Tug Yourgrau, Errol Morris, and Clint Eastwood were all pleased with my support.
Only once did I loan a Model 32ASR to a local Chicago stage company and I will not do it again.
I spent several weeks restoring the plastic to make it look almost new. I created a tape and instructed the prop master on operating the machine.
The young man transported the machine in the back seat of his small economy car. The machine performed as was desired during the production.
When the machine was returned many parts were broken and several of the needed spindles and paper were missing. The man made a second
trip out to my home to deliver the missing items that were scattered in the car. I have not been able to get the machine running again.
The only price you can pay for wisdom is experience.

At some point in my career I intend move into an education role. What I’ve observed here seems like a very teachable instance of how poor choices can ruin the relationship between two communities.
