Random aside: The current SIMH 4.0 (beta) code base will let you
attach terminal lines (including the CONSOLE device) to a real serial
port.
So you could if you wanted, connect your Model 33 to SIMH without
needing to faff around more than just the current loop to RS-232
conversion.
It should be pointed out, that if you have a 33ASR and decide to use
it as the console device and wish to load paper tapes from it, the
system does not have reader control. Luckily, processors today are
fast enough, and the Teletype slow enough, the machine won't ever have
an issue. Hopefully.
Also, Fun Fact™: The current version of the Hercules mainframe
emulator now supports the 2703 device with TELE2 adapter (it used to
only support the 2703 for BSC connections). Thus, if you have
configured your emulated operating system correctly, you can now
connect to it via plain telnet, and consequently you could connect a
Model 33 to an emulated System/370.
Cheers,
Christian
