i was at the AWA Museum today, so got some more info on the Dow Jones
Broad Ticker.

Patent numbers:
D87174 "News Ticker Casing or Stand" 1932
1832160 "Feeding Mechanism for Printing Telegraphs" 1930/31
1957076 "Printing Telegraph" 1932/34 (seems to be the main patent)
1957088 "Switch" 1932/34
1979510 "Telegraphic Printing Mechanism" 1932/34

1832160 is assigned to Dow Jones & Co.; the rest are assigned to the
Financial Press Companies of America

The big magnet on the end operates the escapement mechanism that rotates
the print wheel. See photo #51 enclosed. The grey cast semicircle in
the foreground has patent # 1667531 on it. That patent is for a "Sound
Reproducing Apparatus" (1926/28). They apparently used loudspeaker
voice coil to drive the escapement!

There is a mystery box mounted in the front of the printer which can be
seen in all of the enclosed pictures. It has a disk sticking out of the
top of it which can be rotated, but there are no mechanical or
electrical connections to it???

You can also see some examples of the type in pictures 54 & 55.

(sorry about the quality of these pictures. I meant to bring a real
camera to the Museum today, but forgot. These were taken with my phone,
which doesn't do a very good job on closeups.)

Have fun,
