Have you just tried it in local mode i.e. keyboards, printer, current
supply only ?

Send 0000001, 0000010, 0000100, etc .. dont care about what is printing, is
everything moving correctly ?
If so, what I do next is printing characters

A ASCII to Binary chart

http://rossparker.org/bwa/

Does 0 (zero) print ok ? Its a good starting point

Then print a just a 1 repeated, then a 2, 4, 8 .. your 'walking' the
pattern. then A, B, D, H, P, X each one repeated until your happy with what
is going on, the send patterns ABDHPX <null> and repeat that pattern.

Somewhere in my old junk is a pattern generator that has combinations built
in.

Another test is <null> and <rubout> all zeros then all ones.

Where it gets to be fun is patterns that test the rotation and lift on the
drum. But the same idea.
