Pete,

The General system frequently purchased Bell System machines for special network applications.
Your 35 was built to operate on a private selective calling system, similar to the 81D1, 8A1, 8B1, etc., etc.

A tape would be placed in the TD and if it was a routine message the bid lamp/button would be pushed.
If the message was urgent the repeat bid would be depressed. The master station would poll all of
the machines on the network that were "bidding" to send a message.

The phone here does not ring in the middle of the night anymore. I was never happy with call outs on full period* circuits.
People would keep calling to ask when the machine was going to be fixed. Then the following work day would be very tiring.

* Full Period was 24/7/365… we were supposed to have them repaired within 2 hours including "windshield time."
