You are totally right. Sigh….. In my case the shack is a basement third bedroom and all bedrooms have carpet. Although there is no bed in here, the carpet is here in anticipation of a move in several years… hi hi
For the hot solder comment, I have a heavy plastic floor mat over the carpet under the repair bench as a compromise. Works "ok" at best but not as nice as the old floor tile. That reminds me of a time when i was soldering a PL-259 while wearing shorts. A glob of solder fell off the iron right onto my exposed leg. Oh my gads did that hurt. Never made that mistake again.
I remember the time many years ago when I was copying a RTTY news broadcast from President George Bush on my Model 15 Teletyoe. My 7 year old daughter was in the shack watching, thinking that I was in contact with the Preseident Bush :)
