I just pulled another supply from another M28 and this capacitor also has a
small hole. Forgive my ignorance on this subject having never seen this
before, but is this some kind of safety in case the capacitor fails and
rather than blow the can apart it vents thru this hole???
Cheers,

Subject: M28 Stopped Printing
My favorite M28 stopped printing a while back and I did not have a chance to
look into it until now. I looked at everything possible and could not find
the problem. Finally, I pulled chassis out and then the power supply. Hiding
on the back side of the tall capacitor was a spot of corrosion. I cleaned
off the corrosion and low and behold there was a hole thru the can! (see
attached photos). I have seen all types of capacitors failures before, but
never like this. Anyone experience this before???
Here is the data on the capacitor. Some of the numbers may be a little off
as they were well worn and very hard to read.
Industrial Condenser Corporation, Chicago, IL
Royalitic "Long Life"
3040622 155591
120 or 220 MFD at 200 VDCW
(is the 155591 a Teletype part number?)
There does not appear to be anything special about this capacitor and any
suitable replacement should do just fine. For the short term I am going to
take one from another M28 until I have time to find a replacement.
Cheers,
