[GreenKeys] OT: Radio Shack near bankruptcy

Unfortunately, Radio Shack isn't the problem! You really have to look in a mirror to find that! I do remember the first purchase from "Radio Shack" which was a single store at the time and had a very interesting catalog. I bought my sister a really special and high tech birthday present: A "portable radio." Six transistors and no tubes! And it had a very heavy real leather case. AM broadcast band only.
A year ago I took my "local" (40 mile drive for me) store owner to task for getting rid of that corner of his establishment where you could actually buy "little component stuff." Not much, of course, but there were things there I knew I could buy if I needed them. He explained to me that the total sales volume from that 16 or so feet of display wall was (and he pulled out a sheet to show me) was $73.16 ! And that was for six months! I told him I didn't blame him one bit and now I buy "little component stuff" like 1N34A diodes (for people who want me to show them how to build a crystal radio) and little bat handle SPDT switches in quantities of 100 from China and all of it does arrive in a week or so! I do still have another Radio Shack store that does stock some stuff I use but then I have to drive a little over 100 miles.
No, I never did buy 88 mH toroids from Radio Shack. Those came from Elliot Buchanan in California.

Used to be LaFayette, Allied Radio with Knightkit, Heathkit, and several hobbyist stores like Tandy.
In my opinion Radio Shack should get back to basics such as batteries, electronic parts and unique items not sold elsewhere.
You know... parts that folks need right away and do not want to wait for an on-line shipment.
If you can wait, I use Mouser (no minimum quantities) JAMECO, and sometimes DIGI-KEY (minimum quantity orders required)
