I think the case is a cabinet for a WU model 100. A machine made by Underwood for WU. The carriage didnt move, the platen did. Dual kybd contacts and the platen moving got around Teletypes patents. If there is a hole in the right and left side of the cabinet to allow the platen to move, thats a good clue.
See the movie "An Ace in the Hole" or "The Big Circus" with Kirk Douglas as a reporter doing a story on a guy stuck in a cave. Good movie and it features a model 100 a lot.

greenkeyers:
any help id'ing this case? I was told it was called a "postal" type, often found in p.o.'s; I found the two plates inside the case, one labeled
"Western Union". could not locate any other data plates on the unit.
item is in fairly nice condition; I haven't found any significant dings or dents, some minor scratches; item is for sale, any idea on the value
of this unit? located in carson city, nv - no shipping, pickup only or locate a shipper in the area that will handle it.
