[Sorry, subject line was wrong: I want
one in the UK]
Dear Greenkeyers
I'm looking to get hold of a working Teletype
in the UK, preferrably something well known
like an ASR-33. I want it to hook up to an
Altair 8800 clone computer as I want to teach
students about compuing from the most basic
level of noughts and ones upwards. I'm trying to
get away from the idea that it's what happens
in computers is somehow magical and happens inside
a black box: I like the idea of students seeing
their data and programs as zeros and ones
physically punched as holes on paper tape.
Anybody know of such a thing, or willing to
start refurbishing an old machine for me?
I'm able to wait if it'll take some time as
the course I want to teach doesn't start until
October 2015. I've got a small amount of public
money to do develop this course, so I don't have
to go for the very cheapest option. A reliable
machine is what I'm after. I can collect from
anywhere on the UK mainland, so long as there
is someone to help my load the machine when
I turn up in a van.
Regards
Gabriel
