Russ and group- Yes it is good to get it out there... In fact, I
will add it to the _www.smecc.org_ (http://www.smecc.org) museum tty
section... One other possibility is - the ore it is out three someone
will stumble across it that has a box of these things in little teletype
packaging envelopes.
A hobbyist would be good or someone in industry that share our
common interest and love of this old stuff that tells his staff...
"hey! make 100 of these" I used to find this in the older generation
of machinists, not so much anymore, but we can always hold out hope!
I wonder if that extra base I have for a NAVY 28RO uses that gear
too? I have not studied this thing closely. It is a different changer than
my one with the metal gears. We are town between scrapping it for
the pats that are on it or trying to find the rest of it and a top
case to make it complete. We had a few offers for it and if they get
high enough we would consider letting it go and put the $$ towards
another display case here.
A while back I bought a 3 speed gearshift blindly but was real lucky.. it
had an unadvertised pinion with it! The price was cheap and it was an NOS
beauty!
Anyway let me get this info posted on this gear.

Ed,
That has been the problem in the past. In addition, many places charge a
minimum of hundreds of dollars for any work. I posted the 162669 gear
information so that everyone has the information that I was able to gather.
Maybe, one day, we will find a hobbyist with the proper tools who can make a
quantity of these gears and fulfill the "backlog"

Russ - This is the infamous missing pinion gear...

What is the cost of gear making......? My experience is gear making
is on the pricey side..

This is a Teletype Corporation gear associated with the three speed gear
shift for the Model 28.
I was looking for this gear a while ago and was able to get the following
information that
I understand would allow a machine shop to build this gear, if necessary.
I am passing this along in case someone may have a use for this
information.

11/32 pitch circle.
