Boy! Those pictures bring back fond memories of the one I used to own. Got it through the MARS program when I was stationed in Northern Japan back in the early 1960's. If you set it to the .2-1 KHz position, you could crank the tuning knob all the way counterclockwise and it would JUST BARELY copy 170 Hz shift signals. For MARS' RTTY communications back then, we used 850 Hz shift, but the hams were starting to switch over to 170. It absolutely LOVED the 425 Hz stuff and would sit there happily for hours sucking audio from a Collins R-390A receiver and printing the Reuters New Delhi to London circuit. When Kennedy was assassinated, that Reuters news circuit was running in the MARS station and we got the news of it even before the Army comm center on base got it through channels!

That old boat-anchor had enough "oomph" in the loop supply to drive a couple Model 15's and several model 14 typing reperfs as well. That was also where I got used to the crossed ellipse scope tuning pattern and was really glad when Mako, JE3HHT included it in MMTTY when he wrote the program.

I tried hooking up a scope to my TONO EXL-5000E, but there's just too much phase shift in the filters/cables/Tektronix scope input amplifiers to give a clean pattern. I'd tweak the filters in the TONO but can't find a service manual or alignment instructions for it. It's working too good right now to take a chance on messing something up by cranking on the un-labeled trim-pots.
