Yes that is correct Eric ... I am a throwback.... I love the feel of
 paper in my hands..
There is a lot of what we have in the museum now available online ,
broadcast news, radio news, bell system tech journals ... the list goes
on... it sure would free up rooms of shelving(gosh we would probably gain
1000 sq ft or more... if we were to just really on online or electronic
media copies but as long as I am alive and influence things here we
will keep the course journals and books.

Yes we do have some spare issues of many different journals that
we will need to clear out... bell labs, RTTY journal atv journal,
ELECTRONICS, Spectrum, Microwave Journal, TELEVISION AGE , datamation, byte,
killobaud, and on and on....... we generally swap this stuff off for
other publications we are in need of or stuff for display or material
for display fabrication

As to the reproducing of journals like RED did we have NO INTEREST IN
RUNNING A COPY SERVICE and have addressed Bills concerns in a reply I
have also placed under your message here. At one time I had proposed
to Bill about putting all issues online which he was not interested ....
So that issue was closed .

It sounded like he was talking about selling/giving away actual (but
excess)
original copies of the publication. Is that actually no longer permitted? I
know there's been some talk about doing away with the first-sale doctrine,
but
I did not think that had come to pass yet. I am afraid I don't keep up well
with legal developments but that seems like it would be big news. With the
shift to "E-readers" in place of paper media I suppose that day is coming,
at
any rate. I'll hold onto my paper as long as I can.

Anyway, I have no dog in this fight but I thought I'd ask for
clarification.
I've never actually seen a copy of RTTY Journal.

Howdy! Bill - not really interested in going into the reprint
business. Do not think that was my stated intent. I know we had discussed
online archive of RTTY journals but you were not in favor of that.

They sit on a shelf here art the library for reference along with bound
sets of things like radio news, bell system technical journals, SMPTE
Journal RADIO magazine and about 30 other serial titles

But what we are interested in is a write up on Red for a history
article. We are trying to document anyone who had a significant collection
that is added to the museum's reference library.

Since we have absorbed about 3 different collections of journals we
will have some to swap off. seems we need volume 1 # 1

SMECC Library. We did not personally know him so am inviting any of you to
provide some writeup on him...
